The last weekend in July my two gal pal bloggers, Ashleigh and Melissa, and I traveled to Milwaukee, Wisconsin for a little mom’s getaway weekend. We had plans to drink all the local beers and eat all the Wisconsin cheese curds. Our trip was sponsored by Visit Milwaukee because they know that moms especially need a weekend away!
I think we came pretty close to accomplishing our goals.
We rolled into town on Friday, checked into our hotel, Potawatomi Hotel & Casino, and got ready to go out but not before checking out the amenities. I will say we were the youngest people I saw at the hotel. The rooms were very nice and the bathrooms, muy bueno! I also don’t really gamble, but we did hit up one game together just for a laugh.
After freshening up, we headed out to dinner and drinks at Lakefront Brewery. I already love Lakefront’s beers. We are lucky enough to be able to purchase them in the Chicagoland area. I had their IPA which is my standard go-to. My next beer was a black IPA called Just Muck’n Around. It was a collaboration between Lakefront Eagle Park Brewing Company.
It was super surprising! It is dark in color but not heavy like a dark beer. It is an IPA but not super bitter and hoppy like a normal IPA. I should have bought more before I left for home.
Every Friday Lakefront has a fish fry. Delicious beer battered cod with your choice of sides. We also had to order the cheese curds because, duh! Everything was out of this world. I wish we would have gone earlier to avoid a wait and have more time to try more beers.
After dinner we headed to German Fest at the Summerfest grounds. It was THE BEST people watching I have ever seen in my entire life. We all split an Oktoberfest stein of beer and a bottle of water because hydration. The giant pretzel was money! We didn’t eat more because we were still stuffed from the fish fry.
Then after that, us 30-something mamas headed to a super trendy rooftop bar at the The Kimpton Hotel called The Outsider. I am not going to lie…maybe if we walked in earlier than 9/10ish, the crowd would have been different. But we felt super out of place. It was one of those, I thought I dressed fancy, guess not moments.
I would for sure go back again because it was very pretty. I would just go during the daytime for a little Sunday Funday or something.
We all were having such a fun time and we didn’t want the night to end so we headed to MKE Alehouse for a little Old Fashioned and more conversation.
The next day was jam packed too!
You know me and know I had to have breakfast to start the day so we headed over to Colectivo Coffee for coffee and food. Ashleigh and Melissa had breakfast sandwiches and I opted for pastries. I got a ham and cheese croissant and a lemon poppyseed lavender scone. Gaaahhhhh! Everything was so good.
We then took in some culture at the Milwaukee Art Museum. The nice thing is that you can either bike from MAM to Colectivo.
And as if our feet and legs weren’t tired enough, we spent the rest of the day wandering and eating and drinking our way through the Public Market. We had bloody Marys, charceuterie, wine tasting, cookies… We could have kept going.
Then we did a quick stop at Brady Street Fest for some music and Italian deli goodies from Glorioso’s. I wish I could have bought more things and taken them back home. The pasta salad was great and any of their sandwiches looked delicious.
After Brady Street, we headed back to recoop after the busy morning.
For dinner we headed to Pizzeria Piccola in Wauwatosa. It was a quick service, order at a counter and then take a seat in their outside cute little patio area. They had live music, the wine was flowing, and it was a beautiful evening. I really loved the summer heirloom tomato pizza and their bolognese was on point too.
After dinner we walked down the cute string light lit streets and ended up at Jose’s Blue Sombrero for some chips and salsa and margaritas. I went with the classic traditional. Ashleigh got a mango margarita that I would also highly recommend.
The next day we slept in late and then all hit the road. I think that if we stayed another night, we would have definitely brunched at either Sweet Diner, The Iron Horse, or Blue’s Egg in Wauwatosa. Then I would make sure to go to Boone & Crockett for drinks and tacos. Then more beers at Good City, followed up with late night snacks from Snack Boys.
We are already planning our trip to MKE for next summer. Thanks to Visit Milwaukee for sponsoring our trip and showing us an amazing time.
