Chocolate chip pudding cookies just like the ones Mom made growing up. Chewy and fluffy little bites of almost cake-like chocolate chip cookie goodness. The secret ingredient is a box of pudding mix!
These! These cookies are the cookies we, me and my brothers, grew up on. Chocolate chip pudding cookies are what my Mom packed for us and shipped us back off to college after winter break.
These cookies are my definition of my Mom’s homemade chocolate chip cookies.
I know there are others out there that grew up on the same cookies.
The secret ingredient to these cookies is a box of the Jell-O brand vanilla instant pudding mix. You won’t be able to stop licking the spoon after mixing this batter together.
When my kids think of my homemade cookie baking, they think of my M & M brown butter chocolate chip cookies. Those cookies are big, have crispy edges, and are chewy throughout. This is not that cookie.
Recently, I got a hankering for my Mom’s version of chocolate chip cookie. I grabbed the usual suspects; butter, flour, vanilla, eggs, chocolate chips, and a box of instant pudding. I mixed up the cookies and baked them right away. This dough requires no chilling.
After the cookies were cooled, my kids went HAM on them!
Much to my chagrin, the boys started speaking cookie blasphemy about how these were the best cookies they have ever had. Given a choice between my cookies and my Mom’s chocolate chip pudding cookies, they were reaching for hers.
Pushing my homemade cookies to the side.
I knew I should have never introduced them to the holy grail cookies of my childhood!
I plan on giving these cookies out to neighbors and Mike’s co-workers. Throw in a chocolate crinkle sprinkle cookie or two. Everybody likes sprinkles!
Mini chewy chocolate chip cookies are also a good option if you forgot to buy the pudding mix.

Chocolate Chip Pudding Cookies
Chewy, cake-like chocolate chip cookies made with the usual ingredients in addition to a box of Jell-O instant vanilla pudding mix.
Ingredients
- 2 ¼ Cup Flour
- 1 Teaspoon of Baking Soda
- 1 Cup of Soft Unsalted Butter*
- ¾ Cup Light Brown Sugar
- ¼ Cup Sugar
- 1 3.4 oz Package of Jell-O Vanilla Instant Pudding
- 1 Teaspoon of Vanilla
- 2 Eggs
- 12 oz Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper or a silpat.
- First, using a whisk, mix the flour and baking soda together in a large bowl.
- In a separate large bowl, combine the sugars, instant pudding, butter, and vanilla. Beat with a hand mixer until smooth. Beat in one egg at a time.
- Add the dry into the "wet" and mix until evenly combined.
- Form 1-inch sized balls of dough. Place them about 2 inches apart on the baking sheet. Bake cookies for 8-10 minutes. The cookies keep cooking the longer you keep them on the sheet. So to maintain a nice soft cookie, get them off the baking sheet and on to a wire rack to cool as soon as possible.
Notes
*If your butter is in the slightest bit cold, the cookies will not puff up, they will be flat. They are fine to eat, but they look better when you use soft room temp butter.
